January is a Wrap!

Jan 2012 showed me that it's okay to slow down, just keep moving. I may not get there as fast but I'll get there. Looks like another month off running, at least I can walk.

Even without being able to run I managed to log in 109 miles. So glad I came across the announcement for the #fitcrew on twitter. The 10k step a day challenge got me into walking. I use to think walking was boring - why walk when you can run. Well I can't run now so in order to get the steps in I'm walking. This also is helping me to get my #GoTheDist miles in. This years goal is 1200 miles (300 per quarter). January's mileage was 109. AWESOME! Hopefully I can switch back to running soon but until then I'm Walkin.

Restful Day?!?!

I wish I could say I rested today but I didn't. Got up early and did my challenge exercises. Then waited for the husband so we could take our walk. We went 5 miles in an hour and 40 minutes. It was freezing cold out there towards the end I couldn't even wiggle my fingers.

Jumped in a warm bath when I got back in so I could warm up and almost fell asleep in there. After that it was run to the grocery store, prep for dinner , back to the store, start dinner, put a couple of load thru the laundry, clean up after the dog, clean the kitchen and serve dinner. WHOOO! I didn't even want to eat, so I just had rice and beans. Sometimes I get grossed out after cleaning meat that I can't eat it. Felt that way about the turkey wings today, even though I was craving them. Tried to reach 20,000 steps today but I'm tired and don't know if that will happen today.

Will I ever be warm again

Took the walk outside again today it was 25 degrees when I started out. It took an hour and nineteen minutes to walk 5 miles. My fingers were frozen. Had to wait an hour to shower because my fingers weren't moving. I know we're have a "mild" winter so far but I really can't wait for spring. Love me some warm weather.

Decided to head to the Amish market, son's birthday is Monday and since he's not a big fan of cake I wanted to get an apple pie (his favorite). Checked out a couple of store while I was out but I just wasn't in the mood. I I was still cold and wanted to come home and get under the covers. Instead I finished the washing and folded laundry. Sent the husband out for pizza, I really don't want any I just don't feel like cooking. Think I go to bed early tonight, hopefully I'll sleep all night that hasn't been happening lately.

Oh yeah the Fitbit I order YESTERDAY came today. Amazon prime rocks! Now to set it up and not procrastinate like I normally do. LOL

Fabulous Friday

Woke up this morning with a slight headache and made up all kinda of excuses why I shouldn't walk, the wind is high, it's cold, my treadmill is broken, ect. Finally about 6:30 I got the hell out of bed. Did my 100 pushups and squats and put my clothes on for my walk. I bargained with myself that I wouldn't worry about pace just get to 3 miles. But once I got out there and felt the cold I walked as fast as I could so I could finish.

Got back home showered and drove like a bat of the hell to get to physical theraphy on time. Did 10 minute/.57 miles and 4 other exercises then got iced. Nya my therapist is leaving and I'll be see Karen now. Don't know much about her but I did get the name of a new orthopedic from Nya. I'll call next week for a 2 opinion. Nya think's the PF has been hurting too long. Plus I really don't like Dr Cohen. This new ortho specializes in foot & ankle injuries

After PT I went shopping and walked and walked my steps will definately be over 20,000 today. Got my 100 situps done and now challenge day 13 is in the books.

Today was a good day

Didn't sleep very well last night, never do on Wednesday nights. I have the husband home the two night's before and have to get use to sleeping alone again. Luckily Thursday is the the last day of my work week. Decided on cereal for breakfast because it's easy, added a banana and almond milk.

Today was a tough workout day start off doing part of the Let's Get It Done challenge 75 pushups & 75 squats. At lunchtime I decided to take the walk outside. It was beautiful and I pushed through the 3.1 miles in 45 minutes.

Got back to the building and hit the gym for the 30 minute spin class. Afterwards Denise and I knocked out the rest of the challenge 25 pushups, 25 squats and 100 situps. Can you say exhausted. I got back to my desk had something to eat while trying to finish up some work (and keep my eyes open).

The ride home on the commuter bus was horrible. The normal 20 minute ride took an hour and a half. This look like the norm for the evening commuter, I better get use to it. This is what I get for moving further away from the city. On a bright note the husband had dinner waiting for me. I really appreciated that because this could have seriously become a day of no dinner. I'm still logging my food. I no giving up on this, need this to work cause I'm at a lost on how to reach my goal. This extra weight MUST GO!

Terrific Tuesday

I got about 5 hours of sleep last night, it was pretty restful. Didn't have to pack a lunch today so I stayed in bed an extra half hour. The 100 pushups/situps/squats done. I still managed to get to work....on time, YAY go me. Had cereal and my coffee for breakfast but, I really wish I had a banana.

I had to go to a luncheon at work. This stressed me out for awhile because I couldn't figure out how to get a workout in. Luckily we chose a restaurant in the city so I decided to walk. Ask my co-workers if they wanted to walk with me. Darn they shot me down quickly. It was a pretty enjoyable walk. The weather was perfect. So glad I got a good 4.09 walk in. The luncheon was okay, food was just average. A turkey and avocado on wheat/garden salad/fries. I did have a really good glass of wine. Dinner was turkey meatloaf and potato wedges. Now I'm ready for bed, it's only 7:00. LOL

Day 1 of the FitCrew Journey

Got about 5 hours of sleep, woke up a couple of times but manage to get back to sleep. Did 50 each pushups/situps/squats and drank 16 oz of water. Had oatmeal w/raisins almond milk and 20 oz coffee w/3tsp coffeemate/splenda.

Lunchtime workout KAAOS class 114 each clean & press w/30lbs, boxer twist, jump squats, 3 minute wall sits & 3 minute planks. After class I jumped on the treadmill and walked 3.28 miles/44 minutes. Really didn't feel like walking today but I couldn't come up with a good enough reason to skip it. Finished day 9 of the Let's Get It Done challenge.

Dinner is a fail. I made turkey meatloaf but do not want any. Going to Bed, super tired.

Getting All my ducks in a roll

Tomorrow begins my NEW journey to get back on track. I've put on about 20 pounds since not being able to run/moving/the holiday. I don't know which one is the culprit but I need to get back in control. I've been not eating proper food and opting for junk food. So along with the walking I've added to my daily workout I've joined a group on FB called the #FitCrew Journey. I'm hoping that being a part of the group will keep me motivated and accountable.

I'll be journaling here daily, got my starting weight, pictures and measurements done. Got a pedometer, and will keep doing my daily walks. I have a paper journal for logging in my food and 80 oz of water. See I'm ready for SUCCESS!

I'll continue with my regular workouts and the Lets Get It Done challenge I'm doing (30 days - 100 pushups/situps/squats). This is going to be AWESOME! If I get nothing else from this I hope to make some new friends.

Almost forgot

WOW is only day 6 and I almost forgot to post already. It's gonna be a long year. lol Walked 4.3 miles thru the neighborhood in about 62 minutes. The heel has been hurting all day, I'm getting so sick of this. I just want to run. It's been so long I probably have to start from the beginning like C25K. The calves have been bothering me this week (I think from spin) so I put on my compression sleeves. I seem to help. I also got my day 6 exercises done. 100 each pushups, situps and squats.

I have joined a new support group, I'm trying to deal with the 20 pounds I've packed on in the last 3 months. I'll get more into this later, right now it's bedtime. Hopefully the heel will allow me to walk again in the morning, we'll see.

Jan 4, 2012

I've get to get used to writing 2012, keep putting 2011. So tired today the first day back to work after vacation is exhausting. lol got my walk in at the gym today. It was 14 degrees when I got up this morning so outside walk was no happening. Took my 51 minutes to go 3.5 miles on the treadmill. After that I took the lunchtime KAAOS class, which is a mix of cardio abs and strength. And as if that weren't enough I did day 4 of the challenge. By the time I got back to my desk I didn't a nap. But no rest for the weary, I had physical therapy after work and the first thing she had me do was an incline walk on the treadmill. The physical therapist said my ankle was swollen today but that's probably because I did some jump squats in class. I really need this ankle to heal so I can get back to my life.

The eyes are about shut now, got to go to sleep. Later

1/3/12

Today's the last day of vacation, sad face. Back to the grind tomorrow, at least there's only 2 days left in my work week. Today I went for a walk outside again. OMG it was in the 20s and my fingers were frozen by the time we finished. Oh I didn't mention the husband went with, be still my heart he actually exercised. When we got back and my finger defrosted I did my 100 pushups/situps/squats for the challenge. Man those effing pushups are going to be the death of me. lmao

I tackled the backsplash in the kitchen which was much harder then I thought it was going to be. Why do DIY projects look so easy on TV. Oh that's right it's because they have professionals helping. Anyway it my not be perfect but it looks pretty damn good to me.

Still haven't heard from the swimming instructor at the hotel about private lessons. Think I'll give the Y in Virginia a call tomorrow, I didn't want to have to travel that far but I've got to get started if I want to be able to swim in May for the Tri. That's all I got for now. TTYL

January 2

Had the day off work for New Year's. Did day 2 of the 30 day challenge while watching TV (Absolutely Fabulous marathon was on BBC one of my favorite British comedies) after I decided to head outside. I discovered yesterday that the husband damaged my treadmill in the move so outside is my only option til I get the code to the rec. Anyway I walked 3.2 miles in 46 minutes. It was so cold my fingers were frozen but I saw this women running in shorts. To each his own. LOL

The rest of the day was just that a REST day. Although I did paint 2 coats on the armoire for the foyer. Think I'm taking tomorrow off too, we need to get the backsplash tile up in the kitchen. That's about it for me need to check on dinner and get ready for bed.

A New Beginning

On the first day of 2012 I'm putting into action some BIG plan. Got alot of things I'd like to accomplish and goals to meet. Number one on my list is to get running again. I sprained my ankle back in October and aside from the half Marathon I did back in November, have been down for the count. I'm seeing a physical therapist who says I can start running again (on treadmill) later this month. Going start slow, reading a book on Chi running in hopes that I can build up my performance without future injury.
Next I going to be participating in more group events. So far I signed up for a tri in May and a half Marathon in November. I'm also doing a 30 day pushup/situp/squat challenge for January at my gym. Next I'm aiming to post here everyday (365) this year. If it's no more than a rant or a line just on how things are going.

2012 is going to be AWESOME! I'm ready for it. More later.

Fabulous Friday

Although I wanted to I did not run yesterday, I'm determined to stick with the lower mileage plan. I did have two lunchtime class on schedule. First up was Spin class. We worked on speed work and in 40 minutes I burned 508 calories. It was pretty hot in the aerobic room and I joked that we were taking Hot Spin. Immediately after Spin class I had a 30 minute Tri training session. We had to do some kind of assessment workout. Dude this was tough. The goal was to do 600 squats; 500 situps; 400 pushups and 300 mountain climbers. My numbers look more like 500 squats; 300 situps and 225 pushups, in all fairness I started after everyone else. They had like a 5 minute lead on me. Still, I'm proud of numbers and made sure I watched my form. We're going to be assessed again in another couple of weeks. Hopefully I'll improve.

Today I had my "long" run 5 miles....I remember a time when that was my short run. Oh well I be back one day. The run today was awesome. The way it started I almost gave up. That first mile about killed me but I kept telling myself not to stop, just get to 2 miles, like the other day. By the time 2 miles rolled around I was in the zone, wasn't going fast but I was moving without a stop. Made it all the way to 4.6 miles before I stopped. At that point I was a quarter of th way up the hill o'death (this is a one mile stretch straight up). I walked it out for about a minute then began the upward climb again. This time I got another half mile before I had to stop again, didn't take another break and finished strong. I haven't felt this good about a run in a long time. Fingers crossed this is the beginning of a trend. Other then the run I did no other workouts today. And I'm okay with this. Later.

June 1

Today is June 1 National Running Day and the start to a new Go The Distance challenge so you know how I started it, that's right with a short run around the neighborhood. It was pretty warm when I set out at 5:30am felt good during and managed a 2.2 mile/23 minutes. Was soaking wet when I got back to the house.

Did my lunchtime workouts for the day. As fate would have it Trainer Larry scheduled power pump (strength training) 2 days a week this month. This coincides nicely with my JustMoveJune challenge to lifts 50000lbs in the month of June. Got off to a good start in today's 30 minute class a total of 15650lbs lifted, have to increase my goal.
5 rounds of 10 each:
Pushups
Bench press with 50lbs
Rows with 50lbs
Cleans with 50lbs
Wide grip bench press with 50lbs
Close grip bench press with 50lbs

3 rounds of 7 each:
Curls with 50lbs
Half curls with 50lbs
Curls with 50lbs

Next I took the 30 minute boxing class my heart rate monitor clocked 458 calories burned in half hour. We ended the class with 500 speed jumps using the light rope. I'm tired now.

May GoTheDist Final thoughts

After a strong finish in the April challenge I decided to go for it in May and increase my run and biking miles to a new high. I felt stronger then I had in a long time and knew that I could meet these goals with no problem, but it was not to be. Around that second week I started noticing something was off and in my usual fashion I tried to brush it off and keep going. Along with the challenge goals, I have been training for a duathlon set for the end of June. The more I ran and trained the more exhausted I felt. On the 13th I was scheduled to run a 5k and an old knee injury reared it’s ugly head at mile one. I ended up doing run/walk intervals and still managed to complete the race with around a little more than 12 minute pace. Between the knee and my exhaustion I knew a doctor’s visit was necessary. The doctor told me needed to have my meds adjusted and take a week off of EVERYTHING. OMG that was a tough week I kept thinking about losing mileage. It was also really hard to watch my training buddies move forward with training and having to modify my workouts to take it easy. What? They said no workout, well I didn't run. Bad patient. After a week I got clearance from my doctor to run and train again. I had to cut my mileage by half and slow down. This actually wasn't so bad I had gotten to the point where I couldn't run for more than half a mile without gasping for breath. With the slower pace I've gone as far as 4.5 miles without a break. That's awesome.

This month showed me that is not all about the numbers. I need to take better care of myself and reach out for help at the first sign that something feels wrong. By the end of the month I only got to 70% of my goal but you know what that's okay. Onward & Upwards!

The Power of Thought

Yesterday I ran my first race.....ever. EPIC FAIL! it was doomed from the beginning I tossed and turned all night and dreamt that I fell during the race and everyone laughed at me. Just had a bad feeling. When we got to the site of the race there was some confusion because a part of the site was flooded but they decided to have the race anyway just change the course a little and decrease the distance. So my 5k was now a 2.79 miler.

My knee had been hurting off and on for the past couple of weeks (I blame all those stupid Burpees) but I have been running my normal schedule so this should have been no problem. Met up with some of my gym bffs and we were off. I felt good the first mile even though is was raining and my breathing was labored I'm used to that. Just kept saying to myself look at all these people around you keep going. Was making pretty good time too. Then it happened I heard a pop in my knee and felt a sharp pain. Dang it I somehow twisted my knee. I told my gym buddy to go on and I slowed to a power walk. I was tempted to stop but wanted to at least compete the run. This kind of crap never happens when I run alone. Okay it probably does but it doesn't effect me as much because there's no crowd around me. So anyway I walked and ran and walked and ran for the next 1.8 miles I was timed at 32 minutes. After the race my friends tried to make me feel better but I was in a funk. I've been running for 2 years and couldn't finish a 2.8 mile run without a problem. I was thinking maybe my best runs are behind me and I should give up on running, I'll never get back to where I was before the accident.

I came home iced my knee and wallowed in self pity, then I took a nap. Woke up to a better attitude. I'm going to run. It's as simple as that. I will start by retraining myself in running, the first thing is to take a week off. I have never really given myself time to heal, now is the time. While I'm on break I'm going to research running with injuries and find the best program to rebuild my distance. I have to do this for me. Believe it or not I love to run and want to make it work for me. A really smart person once said "The past does not define me" I'm believing this and moving forward.
